Sweet and Lovable, a Delight to Everyone
Julieann, the eighth of the Green children, was born May 2, 2008. A delightful baby from the beginning, Julieann quickly stole the h earts of Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters. In late October 2008, our precious girl was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a rare form of epilepsy. As her illness unfolded, we began documenting her progress on this page so that friends and family would know specifically how to pray for her. We are so thankful to the Lord that her outcome so far is very good. For now, Julieann is seizure-free. We know that the seizures could return tomorrow, or in 10 years - so please continue to pray for her.

Dr. Daniel or Farrier Daniel? Daniel decided to try his horse "miracle salve" to extrude a splinter on Joseph's toe today. Joseph's praying he'll wake up tomorrow with both his feet intact. The future of Daniel's career is at stake.

God of the roadside weed,

Grant I may humbly serve the humblest need.

God of the scarlet rose,

Give me the beauty that Thy love bestows.

God of the hairy bee,

Help me to suck deep joys from all I see.

God of the spider's lace,

Let me, from mine own heart, unwind such grace.

Daniel's been working hard spraying the thistles in our pastures. He's trying to stop the thistle growth before they take over the horse, cow, and hay pastures.

"The soil of the human heart is naturally barren of everything good, though prolific of evil. If corn, flowers, or trees, are not planted and carefully cultivated, nettles and brambles will spring up; and the mind, if not cultivated and stored with useful knowledge, will become a barren desert, or a thorny wilderness."

"I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding, and lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down." When our first parents had sinned, the ground was cursed for their sake, and God said, "Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth;" but this curse is turned into a blessing by the diligent and industrious, who are never happy when unemployed, who delight in labor and exertion, and receive an ample reward for all their toils.

BOYS AND TREES

ON THE IMPORTANCE THAT BOYS TAKE MANLY RISKS

"Boys (should be) inured from childhood to trifling risks and slight dangers of every possible description, such as tumbling into ponds and off of trees, etc., in order to strengthen their nervous system...They ought to practice leaping off heights into deep water. They ought never to hesitate to cross a stream over a narrow unsafe plank for fear of a ducking. They ought never to decline to climb up a tree, to pull fruit merely because there is a possibility of their falling off and breaking their necks. I firmly believe that boys were intended to encounter all kinds of risks, in order to prepare them to meet and grapple with risks and dangers incident to man's career with cool, cautious self-possession..."

A RIGHTEOUS MAN REGARDETH THE LIFE OF HIS BEAST. - Proverbs 12:10

Today, unfortunately, a blue heeler dog found his way into our chicken coop and killed one of our chickens, actually Thomas' chicken.

Poor Thomas!

Grace decided we should pick some flowers for the funeral.

Thomas brought them to the funeral.

Joseph led the procession.

Carolyn comforted Thomas.

Daniel gave Thomas a newly hatched chick.

May my mouth praise the love of God this morning.

O God, may I do your will this day.

May my ears hear the words of God and obey them.

O God, may I do your will this day.

May my feet follow the footsteps of God this day.

O God, may I do your will this day.

And so we finish our history study on the Alamo. The boys have thoroughly enjoyed Davy Crockett, Colonel Travis, and Jim Bowie. The girls have enjoyed learning about Mrs. Dickinson and her baby inside the Alamo. All of the Green children set up the Alamo with metal figures to reenact the battle. I pray our children will keep these interests throughout their lives.

"I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die like a soldier who never forgets what is due his honor or that of his country. VICTORY or DEATH." -William Barret Travis Lt. Col. Comd't

These are the stories and the words our children need to hear. Our children need to know the heroes of the past and the Christian character of the men who fought for our country's freedom. We may need more men of this caliber sooner than we think.

Easter lilies! Can you hear

What they whisper, low and clear?

In dewy fragrance they unfold

Their splendor sweet, their snow and gold.

Every beauty-breathing bell

News of heaven has to tell.

Listen to their mystic voice,

Hear, oh mortal, and rejoice!

Hark, their soft and heavenly chime!

Christ is risen for all time!

The Green children were thankful to be feeling better today and playing outside. Grace tied a rope to her bike and asked Joseph to give rides to the little ones while she followed behind "mothering" them.

If at first you don't succeed,

Try, try again.

This is the view from my recliner today. Kenny and I have both been feeling bad and spending time resting on the sofa and recliner all day. Daniel helped with the little boys (Thomas and Nathaniel) while Carolyn played with the middle ones and watched Julieann. All the children were close by in case Mommy and Daddy needed something. Thank you Carolyn for my honey and lemon water to soothe my throat! We enjoyed watching everyone play cards so sweetly and appreciate your eagerness to please and serve with a joyful spirit. You all are worth more than riches and jewels!

Nothing like a little bread to make everyone feel better.

Lord Jesus Christ, pierce my soul with your love so that I may always long for you alone, who are the bread of angels and fulfillment of the soul's deepest desires. May my heart always hunger and feed on you, so that my soul may be filled with the sweetness of your presence.... - Saint Bonaventure

Sunday, April 5, 2009 - The Lord's Day

We thought this was a very artistic flower arrangement by the Green children. This weekend, the Green family (those that were feeling well) took a walk through the woods and came back with these beautiful flowers.

Thomas is still running a fever and not feeling well. His surgery has been cancelled for tomorrow morning. Kenny and I feel this is God's Providence, for it gives us a little more time to pray if this surgery is the right thing to do for our son.

We know the tonsils and adenoids play a vital role in protecting the body from invasion of disease causing germs. There is always the possibility Thomas may outgrow his problems. However, his sleep study confirmed his snoring and rapid breathing. We know the Lord will guide us through this difficult decision. We appreciate all the prayers.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Please pray for Thomas. He is scheduled to have his tonsils and adenoids removed early Monday morning. The results of his sleep study showed several sleep apneas, and also his oxygen levels affected during the night. However, Thomas has picked up a cold and is running a fever. We talked to the nurse today and she wants us to still come to University Monday morning and let the anesthesiologist determine if he can continue with the surgery. Poor Thomas is miserable. We have to elevate his head and sleep with him during the night because of his trouble breathing. We would appreciate your remembering him over the next several days.

Plowing and preparing the soil for our garden.

Plough deep in me, great Lord, heavenly husbandman, that my being may be a tilled field, the roots of grace spreading far and wide, until Thou alone art seen in me, Thy beauty golden like summer harvest, Thy fruitfulness as autumn plenty. - Puritan Prayer

Just a reminder that we have so little time with our children. Even when rainy days are tough with little ones running around releasing their energy meant for outdoors, we must stay focused on our God-given roles to mother our children with an uncomplaining and nonirritated spirit. This is hard to do with our own human efforts. But the Lord gives us the grace to accomplish all that we need if we only ask. I pray my next 24 hours with my children will be used wisely.

Almighty God, Heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children. Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. - Book of Common Prayer
