Sweet and Lovable, a Delight to Everyone
Julieann, the eighth of the Green children, was born May 2, 2008. A delightful baby from the beginning, Julieann quickly stole the hearts of Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters. In late October 2008, our precious girl was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a rare form of epilepsy. As her illness unfolded, we began documenting her progress on this page so that friends and family would know specifically how to pray for her. We are so thankful to the Lord that her outcome so far is very good. For now, Julieann is seizure-free. We know that the seizures could return tomorrow, or in 10 years - so please continue to pray for her.

A BEAUTIFUL FALL DAY

A day for playing in the leaves....

Hunting for deer.....

And baking pumpkin pies!!!!!

After school lessons this morning, the children chose bike races for their outside activity.

This afternoon the boys spent time building ships out of blocks to play Napoleonic wars. Kenny and I are very thankful the children have common interests and enjoy each other's company. We pray they will remain close as they grow older and begin their own families.

MAMA'S REST

Only 6 weeks left of my pregnancy, and I am tired and weary. I spend a lot of time in my chair helping the children with their school lessons, reading out loud in the afternoons, answering questions asked from the kitchen about which spices to use in dinner, and welcoming foot massages after bathtime in the evenings. Having a large family is wonderful when all of the children line up to take turns rubbing Mama's tired and aching feet. It truly helps!!

On one of my favorite blogs a mother of many children wrote, "Pregnancy helps me to rest. From the outside, it seems as though I am doing nothing, yet my body is using all of its reserve strength to enable the knitting together of little bones and flesh. I don't mind being tired and just sitting, because I know that I am being productive in my inactivity."

--Sherry from Large Family Mothering

And so the next few weeks will be uncomfortable and tiring as we await our new little one's birth. But thankfully the Lord gives us rest, and I need to savor the time of "just being."

Kenny's computer has been down, so we're glad everything is working again!!!

Just wanted to share Joseph's reaction when he discovered we did not win the Kitchen Contest and he wouldn't have the use of two new dishwashers!   We had a lot of fun trying, and want to say thank you to all those who voted daily.  We understand we had some faithful voters EVERY day.  We appreciate your taking the time to help with the Green family votes!!

The Green cooking crew decided to use the last of the box of apples to make apple pies today.........

Nothing like a homemade pie crust!!!!

Julieann played quietly in her high chair with her "doh" while everyone was busy at work.

ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEKEND.........

our little "pumpkin" cheeked daughter was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a severe and rare form of epilepsy. We went through several months of uncertainty, heartache, sleepless nights - but our Lord carried us through it all. We sat by and watched the weight gain from all of her medications, wondering if our little girl would ever be seizure-free.

Today, through God's grace, our little "pumpkin" is seizure-free!! We know because of her infantile spasms, Julieann may experience epilepsy in the future, whether it be months from now or years from now. Julieann is a blessing to our family, and she is a delight to us all!! We marvel at her development and progress daily. She is verbal and active, but, most importantly, has an ample amount of affection for everyone!! We are thankful to the Lord for every day He allows Julieann to radiate our lives!!!!!

This morning the wind was "stirring" the leaves everywhere, and the Green children were having such a fun time trying to catch them!!! I watched from the back porch for awhile taking pictures........

STIR ME!

Stir me, O stir me, Lord, Thy heart was stirred

By love's intensive fire

Till Thou didst send Thy Son, Thy best, beloved One,

Even to the cruel cross that I might live.

Stir me that I might give myself back to Thee,

That Thou canst give Thyself again through me.

Stir me, O stir me, Lord, for I can see

The glorious triumph day begin to break;.

The dawn already gilds the eastern sky.

O church of Christ, arise! awake! awake!

Stir us, Lord, as heralds of the day;

The night is past, the King is on His way.

The Green family has been making soap for Pioneer Days in Lincolnton in November. Our latest batch curing is SHAMPOO BARS!!! Our family can go through a LOT of shampoo - so, we thought, why not make our own?

Bigger than our regular soap bar, weighing 5 - 6 ounces and providing lots of ......

LATHER!!!!! Benjamin was excited to be one of the first to try our latest creation!!

Today Benjamin built Grace a table and stool for her "outside kitchen".

Nathaniel decided to use his hammer the boys made him this past weekend to make an outside table as well.

After bathtime, Thomas and Nathaniel were winding down for the evening just watching the fish in the aquarium. We all got so tickled listening to their conversation. They sounded like two old men contemplating life.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - Happy 5th Birthday Thomas!

Happy Birthday to our "big" boy who is always observant to the needs of others and happy with the "little" things in life.

Thomas asked Carolyn to make him a John Deere cake for his celebration!

One of Thomas' gifts was a goldfish aquarium with two fish named......

Bud and Temp (for the history book we're reading in school called "Bud and Me"). The book is a true story about two boys aged nine and five (Thomas can relate) who rode on horseback in 1909 from Oklahoma to Santa Fe, New Mexico.....ALONE. Thomas loves to think of the adventures as something he and Joseph could actually do together. Kenny and I love to watch our boys and their BIG dreams of what they want to accomplish someday.

This weekend Grammy and Grandpa came for a visit. Grandpa was showing the children his rash from shaving so.....Grandpa was eager to learn about Shakerock Farm Goat Milk Shaving Soap. Everyone had a ball watching Daddy and Grandpa discuss the "how to's" of old-fashioned wet shaving.

Grandpa was impressed with the thick lather and left with a Shakerock Farm shaving kit!!

Lots and lots of apples......

Carolyn spent the afternoon making breakfast apple cakes for the family.

A delightful day to spend riding horses!!!

Today Kenny and I watched the creativity of our children on a rainy day.

Joseph and Benjamin ran out in the rain to collect branches to make.....

hammers for all the Green boys.

Then they spent time making LOTS of paper airplanes for everyone to fly around the house. Kenny and I dodged paper airplanes all afternoon!

Some of their work in progress.

Julieann was content playing the trumpet with a tube from old saran wrap.

She was sooooooo proud of herself!

Today Nathaniel pinched his toe and did not like the blood blister that formed. He came to me asking, "Mom, I need your Miracle Salve." I think I'll have to rename my balm for future craft shows!!!! My children use my little balm pot for everything: insect bites, rashes, cuts, scrapes, burns, poison ivy, and now blood blisters. No wonder they call it the miracle salve!!

After dinner, we all took a walk outside and admired the beautiful sky!

It changed colors many times before our eyes.

The boys decided they had had enough fun with tarping behind the golf cart, so the new adventure was building a tent with the old tarp. The Green children will be publishing a book soon, "101 uses for an old tarp."

Another wet, dreary day. Perfect for reading and......

working on extra school lessons.

Nathaniel loves to name his favorite elements on the element chart.

When the rain slacked off a little, Daniel took Julieann for a walk to the mailbox. Julieann loves to be outside, even on rainy days!

When Nathaniel finally tired of the elements chart, he was very quiet all afternoon "shooting" his gun Kenny cut out of some old lumber months ago. The girls' hairbow drawer has been missing ponytail twistees lately, and now we know why. Nathaniel has been using them for ammunition!

What brings cheer to a dreary, rainy day?

Homemade funnel cakes with chocolate dipping sauce!!!!!

The Green children enjoyed making funnel cakes this afternoon.

Thomas was "wearing" chocolate funnel cake after we were finished.

Benjamin was outside contemplating life when I snapped these pictures without his knowledge... until the end!

Guard, my child, thine ear;

Wicked words will sear:

Let no evil word come in,

That may cause thy soul to sin;

Wicked words will sear;

Guard, my child, thine ear.

Guard, my child, thy tongue,

That it may speak no wrong:

Let no evil word pass o'er it;

Set the watch of truth before it,

That it speak no wrong;

Guard, my child, thy tongue.

Guard, my child, thine eyes;

Prying is not wise:

Let them look on what is right;

From all evil turn their sight.

Prying is not wise:

Guard, my child, thine eyes

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN.......

Time to reorganize the closets and make room for the fall/winter clothes! When Goody's went out of business, Kenny stumbled across these glass dress shirt bins that were discounted. They work great for our crew!

Grace helped Daddy organize and assemble the bins.

While Daddy and the girls were working on the inside, all FIVE of the Green boys were taking turns helping to cut the grass. The Lord has truly blessed our family with the joy of girls and boys!!!!

Almighty God, thank Thee for the job of this day.

May we find gladness in all its toil and difficulty,

its pleasure and success,

and even in its failure and sorrow.

THE BOY WHO MINDS

His hair may stubborn be, but, oh!

His eyes will meet you brightly,

For he will have a joyous heart

Who faces duty rightly;

And if you choose me any boy,

Choose me above all other,

For work, or play, or comradeship,

The boy who minds his mother!

During school hours, Julieann LOVES to look at her books. Her favorite collection of books to read are FIELD GUIDES. She would rather read a field guide than a storybook! Of course she has many brothers and sisters that bring her the "real" critters to look at daily. Joseph believes she enjoys identifying them on her own.

This afternoon the Green children pulled out an old tarp from the barn and decided to go "tarping" behind the golf cart. Daniel took the time to fasten the tarp securely.

Julieann watched intently while...

Thomas waited patiently for the fun to begin.

Everyone was ready for the ride and tried to get Joseph to take a break from his work.

Joseph decided he didn't want to miss out on the fun!

Carolyn, Joseph, and Benjamin took turns driving.

Nathaniel rolled off going around a curve but....

got right back up to ride again!

Everyone had an enjoyable time, including Momma who followed behind with the camera!

Monday, October 5, 2009 - Happy 8th Birthday Benjamin!

Happy Birthday to our soldier boy! Ever since Benjamin was a baby, we called him our "little soldier". We are thankful for Benjamin's words of wisdom throughout each day, for his serious nature to reflect on things, and his "joyful" attitude.

Benjamin loved his cake that Carolyn spent the afternoon making for his birthday celebration!

Saturday, October 3, 2009 - Oliver Hardy Festival in Harlem

Great weather and a productive day at the Oliver Hardy Festival. While Momma worked the booth,

Daddy, Grammy, and the Green children snacked on onion blossoms!

Grace helped to fill orders when Momma was tired.

NO GREATER JOY............

than when my children snuggle with me early in the morning. I often think if we were rushing around getting everyone ready to go his or her own way, how much snuggle time, how many intimate conversations, how many reflections on life, we would miss. I am thankful for homeschooling and the flexibiltiy it provides. I am also thankful for the close relationships (not just between parent and child, but between brother and sister, brother and brother, and sister and sister.) There is nothing more important than relationships for my children, especially their relationship with Jesus Christ. Homeschooling allows us to teach them in little moments throughout the day how the Lord is present in all we do.

So as the Fall sets in, and the cool mornings bring the Green children to snuggle under Mommy and Daddy's comforter, I hug them, kiss them, listen to them, and thank the Lord for each of my blessings.

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." ----Deuteronomy 6:5-7

Making the last batch of goat milk lotions before the Oliver Hardy Festival Saturday!

Labeling and packaging for the festival.
